Restaurant Insights: Promotion Assessment

A standardized, consumer-driven process, is equally as important in developing successful, limited-time-offers (LTO’s), as it is with core menu items. Our approach to identifying unique and appealing LTO’s incorporates the following components:

  • Evaluate the ‘platform’ or core idea of the promotion first, followed by the appeal of individual menu items that could be part of the promotion
  • Identify standard key measures to use across tests, including traffic draw, uniqueness vs. competitors, and fit with brand image
  • Incorporate diagnostic measures to identify improvement areas, including likes and dislikes of specific words and phrases (e.g. text highlighter tool)
  • Use TURF analysis to identify the combination of menu items that maximizes consumer reach
  • Use photos to help communicate the essence of the ideas
  • Include any previous and successful LTO’s as benchmarks for new ideas
